The San Isidro Festival has a special meaning in Valseca, which has turned this town into a pole of attraction around its most famous and precious vegetable: the garbanzo. The promotion of this product as identifying and flagship of the people makes organize some events whose focus is the Fair that is organized between Friday 11 and Sunday 13 May and in which the Provincial Council works.
The event enjoys constant growth and this year, Valseca City Council, organizer of the Fair, expects to distribute 1.500 portions of the popular stew that takes place on Saturday 12 May as one of the attractions that honor the most precious product Township. 300 rations are more than last year with which we want to respond to the good expectations of the number of visitors expected in this edition.
The mayor of Valseca, Alfonso Gil Benito; the deputies of Prodestur, Magdalena Rodríguez, and of Economic Promotion, Jaime Pérez; and the president of the Association for the Development of Valseca, Adolfo Manso, have been commissioned today to present what is already the XIV Garbanzo Fair.
The novelties of the program in this occasion rest in a blown glass demonstration that will take place on Saturday at twelve noon in the Parques del Caño and a "Itinerant Beekeeping Museum", in the Socio-Cultural Center "Doctor Velasco" . It will consist of guided tours for all audiences by Professor Santos Mazagatos, who will offer didactic explanations on language and sociology in the hive, management of the apiary, beekeeping tools, etc. It will remain open from four until eight o'clock on Saturday afternoon.
Alimentos de Segovia, the guarantee mark of the Provincial Council, will also be present in the program of events organizing a tasting of "Octavoarte" Craft Beer, at the Socio-Cultural Center "Doctor Velasco". The registration entails five euros that will go to the benefit of the Segovian Association of Multiple Sclerosis (ASGEM).
The wide program of activities, many of them aimed at the family audience, and of a popular nature, is one of the keys to attract visitors to the Fair. To give an example, the race and the marches that take place on Saturday from ten thirty in the morning will already have the participation of 210 runners, 200 adult walkers and 105 children. To all of them, a tote of the popular stew is included in the bag of supplies, with which success is practically assured.
This popular stew, which also takes place on Saturday from two in the afternoon, is one of the central acts of the Fair that serve to promote the product with the most known and consumed dish that contains chickpeas: the stew. Since it began to be organized in 2015 its success and impact has been increasing, from 600 rations then distributed to the 1.500 that are prepared in this edition.
This is to claim the quality and identity of the chickpea from Valseca, for which the Provincial Council has already processed the request in order to obtain the guarantee mark. The past 27 of March was registered in the Control and Certification Unit of the Agricultural Technology Institute of Castilla y León (ITACYL) the study prepared by Prodestur with which to obtain the distinction of the Garbanzo de Valseca as a quality figure of our region. On the same date, the Use Regulation was also made by Prodestur, in order to streamline the file whose resolution will be ready in the coming weeks.
In the municipality there is great expectation before the achievement of this distinction for the important consequences that will entail in the production. It will mean a guarantee of the product against the consumer, who can never be offered anything other than chickpea del Valseca if it is not packaged, labeled and has a minimum size of 8 millimeters. If the Brand is achieved, it will include one hundred percent of the production, for which the cultivated area is also increasing, which has already gone from 70 hectares in 2017 to the 80 in 2018, whose harvest is a good one in terms of quality and quantity. for the abundant rains fallen on time.
Another activity that includes the program is the visit to the Mineral Museum that houses the socio-cultural center of the town, where you can see more than 200 samples in a collection that, due to its characteristics, makes it unique throughout the region. The program is completed on Saturday with the celebration of an artisan market throughout the day, the Puppet Theater with the company Titiriflas, which will represent the work "The Witch Pocopelo", in the Parks of Caño, inflatables and verbena. On Sunday 13, the central act is in charge of the Municipal Band of Ayllón, in the Plaza de Felisa Hernangómez, where it will offer a concert.
The 15 day will celebrate San Isidro with mass, a Spanish wine and chop for all, offered by the Local Farming Board of Valseca, in the Socio-Cultural Center "Doctor Velasco".
