From now on all the information on the degree of fertility that has a suitable soil for cultivation in Segovian territory can be consulted electronically in the means made available by the Agricultural Technology Institute of Castilla y León (ITACYL), depending on the agreement that has subscribed Prodestur, the organism of the Diputación for the economic and environmental promotion, with this entity. By virtue of this agreement, Prodestur has transferred the information on all the analyzes that had been carried out in the soils of the province so that they can be incorporated into the digital catalog and databases of free access for institutions, producers and citizens in general that the Institute is elaborating of all Castilla y León.
The Institute commits itself, according to the approved text, to compile and digitize all the studies of the soils that it has already analyzed by Prodestur; assign location coordinates to the soil samples that Prodestur contributes to the Castilla y León soil database and to make maps with the edaphic variables of interest such as fertility, texture, organic matter and PH obtained by interpolation of the information facilitated by the provincial agency in the agricultural areas of the community.
For its part Prodestur will make available to the ITACYL the data set of the analyzes of soil samples made in recent years and the data obtained during the duration of the agreement, as well as to facilitate publications, databases and documents own required for the accomplishment of the tasks object of the agreement.
This tool will be very practical for producers because it will allow them to know more in detail the degree of soil fertility at the time of programming the fertilization design or to use different crops according to the characteristics of each land.
In 2011, Prodestur (then Provincial Agricultural Consortium of Segovia) established the first collaboration in this field with the ITACYL and the results of those works can be consulted on the web http://suelos.itacyl.es/.
Prior to this project, Prodestur had already pioneered an on-line tool for field technicians based on the characterization of the soils of the Carracillo region http://www.prodestursegovia.es/sector-agroambiental/mapa-de-suelos, which also includes other data such as irrigation water analysis.
On this occasion Prodestur will be responsible for making available to the ITACYL the data set of the analyzes of the soil samples carried out in recent years and the data obtained during the duration of the agreement.
For this reason, it has been in contact with its main users of soil analysis, cooperatives and agrifood companies in the province, to request their authorization in order to facilitate ITACYL soil analyzes conducted in the laboratory by their companies from 2014 to the termination of the agreement in 2020.
In addition, the Laboratory will provide its own analytics obtained from various studies carried out by the Section of Agriculture and Water Quality of Prodestur.
