The garbanzo of Valseca returns to obtain prominence this Saturday 13 of October with the celebration in the town of the III Day of the Garbanzo de Valseca, whose program has been announced this morning in the Provincial Palace. Conferences on the nutritional contribution of the legume, a food products market in Segovia, live culinary demonstrations and a popular stew cooked with chickpeas. The conference is held with the aim of obtaining a guarantee mark for the legume, a work that has been founded by the Prodestur laboratory of the Provincial Council. The act of disseminating the program was attended by the mayor of Valseca, Alfonso Gil, the president of the Valseca Development Association, Adolfo Manso, the president of the Diputación Francisco Vázquez, and the deputy of Prodestur, Magdalena Rodríguez. "We are confident that very soon, before the end of the year, the province of Segovia can count on a new guarantee mark: that of the Garbanzo de Valseca, in which the Provincial Council has collaborated in its achievement with the justificatory work done by the technicians. from the Prodestur laboratory. We believe that obtaining Protected Geographical Indications is very important for the development of the agricultural sector of the province and that is why the same has already been done with the guarantee brand Judión de la Granja and Ajo de Vallelado; and if the City Council and the producers so wish, it will be extended to Martín Muñoz's tomato, "said Magdalena Rodríguez. As for the rest of the events, the 12: 00 hours will take place the talk about the chickpea and its contribution in the Mediterranean Diet by Eva de La Fuente, a pharmacy graduate, qualified as a nutritionist and professor of Biochemistry at the San Pablo CEU University of Madrid. Previously, the opening of the Food Market of Segovia in the Plaza Mayor will be carried out thanks to the partners of Alimentos de Segovia and the Area of ​​Economic Promotion of the Provincial Council. There you can taste and buy all kinds of products from Segovia, from torreznos, chocolates and craft beers, to the tomatoes of Martín Muñoz and, of course, Garbanzos de Valseca. Next, there will be a demonstration of Show Cookin (live cooking) in the hands of the Association of Chefs of Segovia in which they will prepare a hot and cold dish with chickpeas from Valseca, highlighting their versatility in the kitchen. One of them will also be cooked with tomato by Martín Muñoz de las Posadas. On the 15: 00 hours will take place the popular stew with chickpeas from Valseca for the price of 3 euros and with a gift of a commemorative clay pot for the first 350. This year's harvest This year's harvest has already come to an end. The result obtained has been much better than last season with about 90 tons collected from the 80 hectares planted, with an average production per hectare of about 1.100 kilos. The future quality mark will not only protect the municipality of Valseca, but also the neighboring municipal districts of the capital (Zamarramala), Cabañas de Polendos (La Mata de Quintanar), Roda de Eresma, Bernuy de Porreros, Valverde del Majano, Hontanares de Eresma, Encinillas and Los Huertos.
