The National Union of Travel Agencies (UNAV) will hold its XXII Tourist Congress between 4 and 6 days in April, one of the national reference events in the tourism and travel sector. On this occasion, the event of the dean of the Spanish agencies will be held in Segovia, in the Juan Bravo Theater, a building characteristic of Spanish architecture at the beginning of the last century, which in October of 2018 celebrated its centenary and is managed by the Provincial Council of Segovia.
The Segovian capital is the fourth city of Castilla y León that hosts the celebration of this Congress, after Zamora, Avila and León and its organization has been possible thanks to the Provincial Council and the autonomous body PROdestur, with the backing of the City of Segovia .
The assistance of 250 travel agents is envisaged, representing more than 2.500 points of sale grouped by UNAV throughout Spain. Together, the companies grouped around UNAV employ about 8.000 workers and invoice annually an estimated figure close to 6.000 million euros.
The penetration rate of national agencies in the travel market is close to 38%, according to the data collected in the II Strategic Study of the Travel Agencies Sector in Spain. This figure assumes that Spanish travel agencies managed more than 32 million trips in 2016 (latest data available).
The future of travel agencies
The future of travel agencies will focus on the theme of all the papers of the Congress, which this year presents a renewed, more agile and dynamic format, with guided talks following the TED methodology and debates open to participation. According to Carlos Garrido, president of UNAV, "we will be able to share together with the best experts that will accompany us their experiences and success stories so that they can serve us in the planning of our business strategies".

In total, there will be six working sessions and a round table. The sectoral transformation of other sectors, the new trends that customers demand in their travels, how to attract and retain these customers or the importance of the technology applied to the agencies will be the subject of analysis of the sessions.
There will also be conferences that will address the value of the corporate client and how the travel agency of the future should be, both in the content it offers and in the way it should be done. In the round table, for the first time in a congress, sectoral representatives and suppliers will meet face to face with a group of 'millennials', in order to better understand the reality, promote a closer approach and deepen the understanding of the clients. from the future. ObservaTUR will present a study about the role of the agencies, their relationship with customers and suppliers and about the behavior of travelers
The congress will also deal with the main problems facing the sector in its day to day, "such as combined travel, the Data Protection Law or the relationship with airlines," says the president of UNAV.
In addition to the technical program of the conference, congressmen will have the opportunity to enjoy an intense social and cultural agenda of Segovia, which also includes visiting some of its main tourist attractions (Royal Palace of Riofrio, Cathedral, Alcázar de Segovia, Esteban Vicente Contemporary Art Museum, La Granja de San Ildefonso, Real Factory of Crystals and Safari Ibérico de Segovia), will enable you to see a sample of its gastronomic offer and inn (Mesón Cándido, Parador de Segovia, Convent of Minimums Restaurant, Restaurant La Portada de Mediodía ...).
