Description of the event

Act organized together with the Social Forum of Segovia.

This work is an essential book for shedding light on one of the less studied and known chapters of Franco's repression.

The concentration camps were the first leg of a repressive system, an ideological holocaust, which turned all of Spain into a huge prison full of graves. In them, political prisoners and prisoners of war were killed, died of hunger and disease, suffered all kinds of torture and humiliation.

The data is necessary and documentary evidence is fundamental, but nothing makes real sense if we are unable to understand that behind each figure, each list, each Franco concentration camp there were thousands and thousands of men, women, families ...

Quotes:
«Chilling story. A must-read work that strips the lies of Francoism, documented in a splendid and thorough manner. »
Baltasar Garzón

«An investigation as heroic as necessary. Carlos Hernández de Miguel's new book has moved me to the roots. »
Ian Gibson

«The camps were part of a complex strategy of terror within a very broad ideological project to annihilate the political and moral culture of Republican Spain. This crucial issue for the recovery of historical memory in Spain has found its ideal chronicler in Carlos Hernández de Miguel. It offers us a painful but necessary story, based on an exhaustive investigation and presented in lucid prose, of the suffering imposed on thousands of Spaniards and their families by Franco and his followers. »
