Organized by the Tourism Area and the Network of Machadian Cities from 22 to November 25, conferences, concerts and guided tours will take place
Madrid officially adheres to the Network of Machadian Cities in the Extraordinary General Assembly that will host Segovia on Saturday November 23
Segovia as a city that assumes the presidency of the Machadian Cities Network in 2019, the year in which the centenary of Antonio Machado's arrival in the city is celebrated, hosts the VII Juan de Mairena Classroom of the 22 to the November 25.
The Juan de Mairena Classroom was born in 2013 promoted by the Network of Machadian Cities with the intention of delving into the most philosophical and social thought of Antonio Machado (1975-1939).
The Network of Machadian Cities, made up of the cities of Baeza, Collioure (France), Rocafort, Sevilla, Soria and Segovia, intends to claim one of the less publicized aspects of the writer, his ideas and concepts on culture or education, with the backbone of his sentence book Juan de Mairena (1937).
The Classroom, organized by the Tourism Department of the City Council and the Network of Machadian Cities, opens on Friday 22 in November at 9: 30 hours with the presence of the mayor of Segovia, Clara Luquero, at the Royal Academy of Art and History and Art of San Quirce.
Next, Carlos de Dueñas Díez will lead the conference La Educación en la Segovia de Machado. The year Machado arrived in Segovia, a huge process of transformation of popular education was beginning. That same year, 1919, the Segovia Popular University began its journey. In 1921, the School Colonies were launched and the idea of Pedagogical Collaboration Centers emerged. A few years later, the Home School and the Elementary School of Labor were created. The Diputación developed its pension policy for expansion of studies and Segovian teachers launched the Provincial Pedagogical Congresses.
Carlos de Dueñas Díez has a degree in Germanic Philology and author of several works on the History of Education, such as “From shadows to light. Education in Segovia 1900-1931 ”.
At 10: 30 hours will begin the conference Remembering memories by Monique Alonso, founder of the Antonio Machado de Collioure Foundation, and María Queralt, granddaughter of Luisa Torrego, former owner of the pension in which Antonio Machado lived in Segovia de 1919 to 1932.
At 11: 45 hours Aku Estebaranz, Archeology of Images, will show A city for a poet. A proposal to discover through images the city that hosted Machado and review their daily experiences, friends, activities and their daily work.
At 12: 30 hours José Miguel Villar, Professor of Literature at IES Mariano Quintanilla, will deliver the Antonio Machado conference at the General and Technical Institute of Segovia (currently IES Mariano Quintanilla). He will talk about Antonio Machado and his experience as a teacher at the Segovia Institute, an anecdote of his experiences at the educational center and an overview of the faculty staff that coincided with him. In addition, he will present the commemorative activities at the IES Mariano Quintanilla.
In the afternoon, at 17: 00 hours, there will be a guided visit to the IES Mariano Quintanilla, former General and Technical Institute of Segovia, recently recognized as a Historical Institute by the Junta de Castilla y León: its heritage, the Machado Classroom and tour for the exhibition "The Machado classroom, the poet's pedagogical ideology".
At 19: 00 hours will begin the round table La Casa Museo de Antonio Machado and the poet's Segovian literary creation with Carlos Muñoz de Pablos, Juan Luis García Hourcade and Juan Antonio del Barrio Álvarez, academics of the Royal Academy of History and Art of San Quirce
Juan Luis García Hourcade and Carlos Muñoz de Pablos will explain the origin of the Museum in the Machadian lodging, the current state of the House-Museum, the needs of its adequate conservation and the challenges of the future. Juan Antonio del Barrio Álvarez will explain the poet's chores during his stay in Segovia.
The Machado concert with us of the guitar, violin and voice trio In Clave de Me, will begin at 20: 00 hours. A group of songs about works of the poet, composed of figures of the popular song since the sixties, along with others that the group has created for the occasion.
On Saturday 23 of November at 10: 30 hours will take place the guided tour In Segovia, one morning, for a walk ... with Juan Antonio del Barrio, academic of the Royal Academy of History and Art of San Quirce and professor of the Claret school. A tour of the poet's main itineraries through the city ..
At 12: 30 hours, the Classroom of the Royal Academy of History and Art of San Quirce will host the representation With the eyes of Poet of the company The Imagination Theater. A show that covers the life and work of the poet through a fictional character.
The church of San Nicolás will be the scene at 20: 00 hours of the commemorative concert of the 80 anniversary of the Spanish exile: Allez, allez…! by Luisa and Cuco Pérez on the popular songbook of Spanish refugees in the French concentration camps, 1939-1942.
On Sunday 24 and Monday 25 the House-Museum of Antonio Machado (Desamparados Street, 5) will open during the open house from 11: 00 to 14: 00 hours. Visitors can leave their poem or comment in a signature book. And on Monday, at the same time, it will host activities for school children on the occasion of the centenary celebration of the arrival of Machado to Segovia.
On Monday 25 at 18: 30 hours, the Reading House will host the workshop Travel and conversation with Antonio Machado. A meeting between the public and the participants in the workshop given by Sara Rosenberg, winner of the IV SxS Antonio Machado Scholarship. Dialogue from the texts of Machado. The Rodera Robles Museum joins the centenary celebration of Antonio Machado's arrival in the city and the creation of the Popular University of Segovia with the temporary exhibition Segovia Silver Age (1901-1936). A simple and eloquent sample of images with which to discover the numerous manifestations that occurred in that period in the city and that generated a great collective illusion. Finally, La Alhóngiga hosts the Los Caminos de Machado exhibition in the framework of the XIV European Cinema Exhibition City of Segovia, a sample of photographs by Laura Hojman (Seville, 1981). This is a selection of photos taken during the filming of "The Blue Days" and frames of the documentary film itself, which is in the post-production phase. Hojman is a film director, screenwriter, photographer and partner of the independent producer Summer Films. Within the framework of the Juan de Mairena Classroom, on Saturday 23 at 13: 00 hours, an Extraordinary General Assembly of the Network of Machadian Cities will be held in which the official entrance of Madrid to the Network will be approved, as its City Hall agreed in the 30 Plenary session of April of 2019.
