A child tries desperately to escape from his hometown. This, however, will not be easy. Hidden, he hears the screams of his pursuers, getting closer and closer. Although he manages to avoid being captured, he faces an even more difficult challenge: the infinite and arid plain that stretches before his eyes. The young man knows that he must cross this terrain if he wants to flee from his fatal destiny. In full crossing, he meets a pastor, who offers him protection. What they both do not know is that, from this meeting, nothing will be the same again.

"I envy the Japanese," Van Gogh wrote to his brother, Theo. Thanks to the exhibition on which this film is based, "Van Gogh and Japan", at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, we understand why. Although Vincent Van Gogh never visited Japan, it is still the country that has had the most influence on him and his work. When visiting the Japanese art galleries in Paris and creating their own image of Japan, after extensive research and long discussions with other artists, the discovery of Japanese works led Van Gogh's career to a new and very exciting direction .
