Quail

Town located west of the La Campiña region on the CL-605, close to the province of Avila. The natives are called "hooves".

On the Voltoya plains, the La Mora stream runs through the municipality. It was born with the Repopulation and dates from the XNUMXth century. A short distance away is the district of Montuenga and two unpopulated villages from the XNUMXth century Navalperal del Campo and in the XNUMXth century Valverde del Campo. As for the buildings to be highlighted, we have the Telegraph tower, the Santo Domingo Parish Church, and “La Capellanía” with typical Mudejar architecture in the area; As for the natural environment, the Las Barrancas stream or the Valverdón wetland.

What to see

Santo Domingo Church 

Construction of the XNUMXth century in brick typical of the area, Arabic tile and granite for the columns. Church with a Latin cross plan in three naves and a dome over the transept. Inside, a baroque altarpiece with Santo Domingo de Silos, and a baroque organ. It can be visited during hours of worship.

Optical Tower (Quail-Montuenga)

Located on a hill, on the road that goes to the right before the schools. Initially built in the 1844th century in brick and masonry. It has three floors and the telegraph was on the top. In 52, by Royal Ordinance, the Madrid-Irún optical telegraphic line was built, with XNUMX towers that transmitted messages in a shorter space of time than with a man on horseback. The keepers worked from dawn to dusk relaying messages encrypted with a code that only the line commander knew. The heliograph worked by means of optical flashes with mirrors between the network of existing towers in line between various locations.

Underground cellars

They are private and the brick doors and spillways can be seen outside. In them the wines of the land of Verdejo variety, Rueda, were made.
