Olombrada

Olombrada

This town of 560 inhabitants is located 13 kilometers from the town of Cuéllar and 22 kilometers from Fuentidueña.

It belongs to the Community of Villa y Tierra de Cuéllar. Today this city council also takes over two other towns, Moraleja de Cuéllar and Vegafria. From this place we already have news with the Visigothic period and it is thought that at this stage the origin of its name could arise. In the XNUMXth century, we know that it was defined as Forumtada, but a century later it was cited as Forambada, which meant the hole, this name comes from the holes in the ground due to the underground cellars, typical of this area.

What to see

Church of San Vicente Mártir

Previously it was an old Romanesque church; of her only some elements are conserved in the south zone, like the frieze of the old church. Later it was reformed. Inside we find the altarpiece of the main altar, baroque, which preserves two of the carvings of the old altarpiece, Adam and Eve and in the center the carving of San Vicente, which is surrounded by paintings that relate their martyrdoms. Visitable during hours of worship.

Mural Paintings

If we take a walk through this town, we can find some paintings on the facades of the houses, created by the author Luis Bayón, in streets such as Calle La Escuela, Calle Pradillos, the water tank, or the area of the laundry rooms ... among many others.

It is striking that the water tank, which today is used to store salt, is decorated not only with paintings but also with the score of a typical fandango of this town, with a sheet music made of metal.

Hermitage of Our Lady of Los Olmos

Or also called del Humilladero. From the XNUMXth century. These hermitages were located on the roads so that passers-by could appreciate what they had achieved during their journey; the hermitage preserves inscriptions on the entire upper wall, and had two entrances. It is not visitable.

Wineries

You can also take a walk and see the typical wineries of this area; We can find some of them on Escuelas Street or Arroyuelo Street, but the truth is that they are scattered throughout the town.

Via Crucis

In this town it is very typical to find different crosses which are very well made in some cases:

We come across a Stations of the Cross, for example, on the Camino del Dureo.

But others also stand out, such as the Arroyuelo cross, which is found on the street with that name, although previously it was located next to a stream. In it you can see the image of Christ on the cross and on the other side it has the Calatrava cross engraved. It is one of the three crosses where the Corpus Christi procession passes, an inscription of the person who commissioned said cross can be seen.

Another of the crosses is in the Plaza del Cristo, hence its name; It stands out in particular because it is located right in the old square of this town. In it the figure of Christ crucified appears, and in the same square there is another with the drawing of Calatrava's cross.

Other crosses are found next to the church. It is said that they corresponded to the old cemetery.

The one on Calle Real, near the church, is considered one of the best in the whole town. At the base it preserves an inscription that dates it to the XNUMXth century.

Finally, the Cross of Nuestra Señora de los Olmos, is located near the Via Crucis in the Dureo area, It is the oldest stone cross and has the particularity that it has the two images of Christ and the Virgin on both sides of the base.

Finally, you can find at the exit of the town one of the works of the Luciano Santos stonemason stands out, it is a pig that was called Prima greed.

Parks and recreation areas

As for the parks, we only find one that is right next to the pools with tables, swings, barbecues and fountains. Also next to the hermitage we find a green area and some swings.
