The dances of the province, protagonists on the tables of Juan Bravo

With three debuting groups and the desire to show that the traditional dances of the province do not go out of style in the towns of Segovia, the Emperor Theodosius dance group will celebrate again tomorrow, Saturday, December 14, starting at 19: 00 hours on the tables of the Juan Bravo Theater of the Diputación, his traditional Dance Contest, an appointment already unavoidable by these dates. And tomorrow will be the sixth edition of a contest that, with the collaboration of the provincial institution, which provides 3.000 euros for the organization of the event, fills the theater every year to see the best dancers in the province dance for a good cause.

This year, the beneficiary of the entrance to the festival, which will be sold for 5 euros, will be the Spanish Association Against Cancer, an entity for which they will dance a total of ten formations within the contest, to which the Villa dance group will be added de Cuéllar, winner of last year's contest, which will offer a demonstration of the reasons that led him to win the first prize in 2018, and the Emperor Theodosius dance group as organizer of the event, which will act, like the collaran, while the jury deliberates which formation is the deserved winner.

Among the groups participating in this sixth edition of the event, the dance group La Aparecida de Valverde del Majano, the Paloteo Group of Bernuy de Porreros and the Dance Group of Ayllón will measure their steps for the first time. In this way, its components must leave aside the nerves of dancing in the most important scenic space in the province and concentrate on what they do best, in order to demonstrate their dance skills against other more veteran formations in the contest such as Las Zarrizuelas de Aguilafuente, the Dance Group of La Matilla, La Cachucha de Arcones, the Dance Group of Valleruela de Pedraza, the Dance Group of Cabezuela, Cal and Thyme of Vegas de Matute and Yerbabuena de Villacastín.

All of them must dance in front of a jury no less impressive than the stage and connoisseur of Segovian folklore, who, with Antonio Blanco acting as secretary without vote, will be formed by the musicians of the New Mester de Juglaría Fernando Ortiz y Llanos Monreal, the guitarist and critic Luis Hidalgo Martín and folklorist Feliciano Ituero. Its decision, as has happened in previous editions, will not be simple and will once again certify that traditional Segovian dances have good health in the province and that there is a sector among the new generations that continues to be interested in cultural customs of their ancestors.

The involvement of the Diputación in this contest, through the Institute of Traditional Culture Manuel González Herrero, is further evidence of the importance given, from the provincial institution, to any traditional manifestation that takes place in a province that has already demonstrated, through different events and celebrations throughout the territory, that it has a varied and rich intangible heritage.
